Operating Principle
A three piece, shaft mounted roller is located on each side of the conveyor’s open center. This roller’s inner segment is pinned to its shaft, which is driven by a 1:1 ratio, roll to roll, chain drive. The bore of the outer, pallet supporting, roller segment contacts the outside diameter of the pinned inner segment. A third part of the roller assembly slides into contact with the inner and outer segments, and locks the assembly together. Thus, the outer roller is friction driven by its contact with the controlled outside diameter of the pinned. inner roll segment. Pallets are held in queue or station by cushioned stops. Although the outer roller rotates when pallets are being conveyed, the inner surface of its bore is free to slide on the outer diameter of the pinned segment when a pallet is stopped. Rollers are constructed of powdered metal, and do not require field lubrication.
Support Stands
Conveyor supports are made of tubular steel and are equipped with leveling pads.
Frame Rails
The roller/shaft assemblies on each side of the conveyor’s center are double bearing mounted in metal tubing which is installed in the anodized aluminum extrusions. The aluminum extruded side rails have T slots on each side and on their bottom to facilitate mounting a variety of optional devices, such as, lift/locates, lift/cross transfers, lift/rotates, pneumatic stops, Etc. The T slots accept standard strut nuts.
Guards; Edge Guides
UHMW side guides slide into mating top surfaces of the extruded aluminum frame rails. These serve as edge guides for the dedicated work piece pallets or the product resting directly on the outer, friction roll surface.
Chain guards are provided to cover the series of shaft mounted sprockets on either side of the conveyor.
Optional guarding is available to cover the center of the conveyor in areas not occupied by stops, cross transfers, lift/locates, lift/rotates, or other conveyor modules.
Drive Package
BMCD (Bottom Mounted, Center Drives) are standard. A pair of shafts on each side of the conveyor are driven from the center of the conveyor length. This minimizes the number of rollers that are driven from the drive motor location. By driving a jack shaft, located just under the conveyor side rails, it is possible to drive both sides of the conveyor using one gear motor with chain drive.
Load Capacity
This conveyor features a friction roller on each side of the conveyor’s open center at each position along the conveyor length. Each of these two rollers has a rated capacity of two hundred pounds. Since roller centers are six inches, eight hundred pounds of palletized load may be conveyed or accumulated per foot of conveyor. The line speed you specify will, of course, affect the horsepower of the drive.
